About me
With determination and the right support, autism is no barrier, and I have seen students achieve all sorts of success - gaining 1st class degrees, studying to PhD level, winning a national art competition, holding Student Union positions, representing their university in sport, undertaking internships, and gaining their chosen employment.
I have worked with autism since 1995. I did my first degree at the University of Manchester, followed by qualification as a social worker and a Master's degree at the University of Birmingham. I then worked with adults with disabilities for 10 years. After this, I became the University of Birmingham's first Disability Co-ordinator, a post I held for 9 years. I set up the disability service, and developed a number of initiatives for autism. I have an Institute of Learning and Management qualification in team leading.
I co-authored a paper on autism, published in the journal 'Studies in Higher Education'. I have completed the National Autistic Society's (NAS) online training.
As well as a long association with the University of Birmingham, I work closely with Newman University.
I am registered with HMRC for taxation, and with the Independent Commissioner's Office for data protection purposes. I hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
